The Results are in, and the Merriam-Webster 2017 Word of the Year is Feminism

The Merriam-Webster 2017 Word of the Year reveals a hidden yearning for clarity in our society. Feminism was a top lookup throughout the entire year of 2017, and saw several spikes corresponding to major events of the year such as the Women’s March on Washington D.C., the release of the film Wonder Woman, and the string of high-profile news stories relating cases of sexual harassment and assault.

The place of women in the world is confused by many things in our society. The Word of the Year shows that droves of individuals are searching for clarity on what it means to be a feminist, and more importantly, what it means to be a woman. The world, however, sheds little light on the reality. Merriam-Webster’s definitions of feminism read: “the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes” and “organized activity on behalf of women’s rights and interests.” The questions remain for individuals: What does equality of the sexes look like? And what is truly at the root of women’s rights and best interests?

Now is the perfect time to bring clarity to this issue, and FORMED can help you do so. Here are just a few select content recommendations on the topic of femininity for you to share with your community and loved ones:
